The Civil and political rights incorporated in the international covenant on civil and political rights 1966 may be classified as follows -
1) The right to life, liberty and security of person
2) Abolition of slavery and slave-like practices
3) Abolition of certain types of forced or compulsory labor.
4) Protection against torture and other forms of cruel inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
5) Protection against arbitrary arrest and detention
6) Human rights in the administration of Justice
7) Right of everyone to leave his country, including his own and to come to his country
8) Right to own property
9) Freedom of thought, conscience and religion or belief
10) Freedom of opinion and expression
11) Freedom of association including trade union rights
12) Right of everyone to take part in the Government of his country
