Meaning and definition of Alibi
"Alibi" is a Latin term, it means "elsewhere". The accused very often takes plea that he was not present at the place, where the offence was committed. In other words An Alibi is a defense based on information that a defendant was not scene of the crime when crime occurred, that he was somewhere else and could not be the person who committed the crime.
Examples :
X is accused of Y's murder on a particular day at Pune. On that day X was at Bombay, is relevant to prove alibi . He (X) has to prove that it would be impossible for him to commit murder at Pune as he was in Bombay on the occurrence of the offence.
